It's common, but it's not normal.

Let me take you to a gym car park.

With one of my client's.

She's four months into her 1-1 journey with me.

And she got chatting to some people there.

Heavily into their macros. Their tracking. Their training.

She said it was like looking at herself.

A previous version of herself.

Same thoughts. Same rules. Same food fear.

She could see it so clearly, because she used to be right there.

Now she's not.

And she said to me, "I can't believe I was so deep in it."

That's the thing about diet culture.

When you're in it, you don't know you're in it.

It's just what you do.

Weigh the oats. Track the macros. Photograph the dinner.

Everyone's doing it.

So it feels normal.

But common and normal are not the same word.

Then this happened.

A friend of twenty years. Just chatting. Nothing serious.

She said, "cause I'm so fat," and carried straight on talking.

Didn't even clock she'd said it.

To her, completely normal.

To me, an educator in this exact thing, it landed very differently.

And that's the bit that gets me.

Weighing five grams of oats.

Choosing a protein bar over a banana because it's "more protein."

Stopping eating because an app said you'd hit your calories, not because you're full.

Taking a photo of yourself in your underwear for a stranger on the internet.

Every single week.

Saying you've "been good."

Saying you haven't eaten all day so you can "have a bit more" tonight.

All so common.

None of it normal.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone in their underwear in their bathroom.

Except online.

Meanwhile, actual intuitive eaters, the people who leave food on the plate because they're full, who eat when they're hungry and stop when they're not, they're the anomaly.

They're the ones who get asked, "you not finishing that?"

Society's got it backwards.

I talk through both of these conversations properly in this week's episode of Chatting with Cara.

What's common versus what's actually normal, and why the difference matters more than you think.

And this is exactly why I built The Intuitive Table.

Not another plan. Not another app. Not another Monday.

Just a table, eight weeks, and a group of women learning to trust a body they've been overriding for years.

We start 14th September at 9.30, at Shropshire Health in Leaton, just north of Shrewsbury.

I need my founding group.

The ones who'll say, "yeah, I do that too."

Because this work spreads when we talk about it.
