Why you already know what to do (and still don't do it)

Right, let me take you back.
All the way back to The University of Leeds and my Sports Science degree.
Sport Science has four bits to it, biomechanics, psychology, anatomy and physiology.
I could tell you exactly how a muscle contracts.
Exactly how a joint moves.
All of it.
But it didn't matter one bit if I couldn't actually do anything with it.
Knowing was never the hard part.
It's never the hard part.
Doing is.
Fast forward to my PT days.
Women walking through the gym door thinking one hour with me a week was going to fix it all.
It wasn't the hour that did anything though, was it.
It was the other 167 hours.
These women weren't stupid either.
Far from it.
I had clients with actual PhDs.
Proper clever women.
They didn't need me telling them protein was important.
They knew that.
Obviously they knew that.
What they didn't have was the psychology bit.
The behaviour bit.
The actual doing it bit.
Random tangent, bear with me, my other half went through this phase of buying me plants.
I do not want plants, Stefan.
Another thing to keep alive, another thing to feel guilty about when it inevitably dies.
But I had them, so I tried.
Googled everything.
What plant is this, how often does it need water, where should it live.
Moved it round the house like an idiot.
Overwatered it, then ignored it for two weeks.
Sun, shade, sun again.
Some times it would wilt, some times it would flower - I had no idea what it would do next.
Then I read one line of advice.
Pop a finger in the compost, down to the knuckle.
If it was wet then leave it.
If it was dry then water it.
That was it.
That was the whole secret.
Weeks of research and the answer was just... listen to the plant.
Sound familiar?
Because that's exactly what's going on with food, isn't it.
You know what protein does.
You know ultra processed stuff isn't doing you loads of favours.
You've read the books, you follow the accounts, you've got the apps buried on page three of your phone.
You are not missing information.
You have never once been missing information.
What you're missing is trusting yourself enough to actually use it, in your life, not someone else's.
Because someone else's rules for your body were never going to stick.
They're not yours.
Why would they fit?
So what actually works?
Listening to yourself.
Genuinely, that's it.
That's the whole thing.
Not another set of rules to smash for two weeks and then feel rubbish about when you inevitably fall off.
Because there's no wagon.
You're never on one.
Just you, learning to trust what you already know.
That's what I do in my one to one coaching, and it's what I'll be doing at The Intuitive Table, my new small weekly group starting this September in Shrewsbury.
If you're sick of starting again every single Monday and you want this to be the actual last time, I'd love you at that table.
There’s no points, no diet, no tracking.
I will give you tools to learn to be a mindful eater, we will discuss them at the table and share what worked for you.
We start Monday 14th September, at 9.30am at Shropshire Health (private GP clinic) in Leaton (10 mins from Shrewsbury and lots of free parking) for 8 weeks, your seat is £18 per session.
