100 episodes of Chatting with Cara.
I know.
I can't quite believe it either.
I nearly did a normal episode this week. A tips one. Something useful to screenshot and save.
But then I thought, no.
You don't get to 100 and just do a normal one.
So instead I’m sat in my stepdaughter's bedroom, hiding from the noise, and I just talked.
No notes (yes I do normally have notes).
Nothing planned.
Just me telling you the whole story.
Because the more you know me, the more everything I say actually makes sense.
And I think a lot of you don't know how I got here.
So let me tell you.
I grew up in a sports family.
My mum was a PE teacher. My childhood was basically one long PE lesson and I absolutely loved it. Netball, hockey, tennis, swimming, football with the boys at break time.
Every sport going.
I went to county trials for netball, hockey and tennis. Never got in.
Not that I'm bitter.
Sport was just what we did.
It was normal.
I was captain of everything at secondary school, first team everything at college.
It was my thing.
So naturally I did a Sports Science Degree, became a personal trainer, and ended up on a gym floor thinking that's where I'd stay.
But I didn’t
Women were coming to me for PT sessions.
Great, that's the job.
But it wasn't the sessions they were getting the most out of.
It was the conversations.
About their stress. Their sleep. Their husbands. The fact they couldn't stop picking at the kids' leftovers at 8pm even though they weren't hungry. The way they'd be absolutely brilliant for four weeks and then just fall off.
And then come back.
And do it all again.
The all or nothing.
Every single time.
I kept watching this cycle and I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Why do we do the things we say we don't want to do?
I started digging into the why.
I did a nutrition qualification. Started looking properly at relationship with food. And what I saw was this, when women understood why they were doing what they were doing, not just what to eat or when to exercise, they started to change what they did.
Not in a big dramatic way. Quietly.
They'd stop the nighttime overeating.
Stop the guilt spiral.
Walk a bit taller.
Feel better in their own skin.
Stop letting food take up so much space in their head.
The more it worked the more hooked I was.
So here I am.
Relationship with food coach.
100 episodes deep in my podcast.
Completely unemployable.
Wouldn't have it any other way.
I went fully online when my little boy Luca came along and narrowed right down into the thing I care about most.
Helping women who emotionally eat, yo-yo diet, and overeat when they don't want to, actually understand themselves well enough to stop.
Because when your relationship with food changes, everything changes.
That is not me being dramatic.
That is just what I see, every single week.
