I went to the hairdressers last week and I also went to a lovely Women's circle, the topic of conversation was the same.
GLP-1 drugs.
But the take on them was very different.
The Women's circle one was full of nuance, it was full of acknowledgement of the effects society had on people and their body image, it was full of concern almost.
The conversation in the hairdressers was all about how long they had been on it and how much weight they had lost.
And out of the 5 staff members I spoke to 3 of them were on it.
But this isn't actually about GLP-1 drugs.
It's about the environment you are in.
You have probably heard the phrase, that if a plant starts to die you don't blame the plant you do something about the environment.
And that's just what I want to prompt you to do.
Now that doesn't mean not going to work, it doesn't mean cutting out that friend who talks about weight loss all the time and it certainly doesn't mean not having your greys coloured at the hairdressers.
It means being prepared to say what you want to hear, not being afraid to give your opinions and being the person that you need.
Now these are things which are really hard to do if you are a people pleaser.
You want to be accepted into conversations, you want to be liked, you want people to think nice things about you and you don't want to rock the boat.
But something has to give if you are going to be true to yourself.
When I was in the hairdressers I just stated that I don't comment on peoples bodies.
When I was at the Women's circle I just listened in as it didn't compromise me.
I was true to myself,
and that bit is really important.
Find (or create) that environment where you can be true to yourself.
One small thing which I want you to do right now is go into your social media and unfollow anyone who makes you feel like you couldn't be yourself around them if you met them in real life.
Mute them if you actually know them in real life!
Create an environment for yourself which you can flourish, or not even flourish just be yourself (wholly and deeply).
If you want some help to navigate this as a people pleaser then book yourself a consultation as this is just the type of thing that I dig into with coaching.
