Put the crusty cold chicken nugget in the bin

Are you even British if you don't eat ice cream in the rain?
Are you even British if you don't eat ice cream in the rain?

If you are of my generation or a little bit older, you will be familiar with the phases -

- Eat everything on your plate.

- There's children starving in Africa.

- You do not waste food.

So when you come to a point whereby you need to make a decision about left over food - these beliefs come into play.

- You eat the crust of the toast.

- You lick the nutella knife

- You eat the cold chicken nugget

Even though you don't want to.

You do it.

Because you are acting out your belief.

Then it becomes a habit.

And you do it again and again.

But here's the thing.

It's only negatively affecting you.

You see when you buy the food, you are spending the money there and then.

You are committing to eating it or it going in the bin.

When you prepare the food you are committing it to be eaten or go in the bin.

It's already been "processed".

So afterwards if it goes in the bin or inside you doesn't matter.

But it does matter if you have a weight loss goal, if you constantly beat yourself up for eating the left overs, if you hate yourself for doing so.

Because that food is taking you further away from where you want to go.

So my message for you next time you are faced with the decision to eat the food or put it into the bin.

I want you to ask yourself these two questions -

- How hungry am I?

- Is this nourishing me?

Then make an informed decision based on those two questions.

It's not about willpower.

It's about making decisions which align with your beliefs.

And rewiring them.

I explain this in more detail on this week's podcast Chatting with Cara, which you can listen to here on Spotify and here on Apple Podcasts.
