My 3 top tips to keep you moving this summer

Excuse the very sweaty selfie just after parkrun at Alderfiord Lake last weekend - but it does tie in with what I'm saying.....

The summer holiday are upon us and if you've got kids the next 6 weeks are about to become a whole lot more fun!

It also means that routine is going out the window.

Overwhelm is going to be showing up.

You are going to be at the bottom of the priority pile.

It's going to be harder for you to do anything for "yourself" by yourself.

But this is where I come in.

I want you to move your body, do some exercise, show up for you because I know that it will help you be present with your kids, helps regulate your emotions so you don't feel strung out all the time.

But I know it's not that easy.

However, my 3 top tips are designed to make it easier for you.

1 - Set realistic expectations

Yes you might have to do a workout in the lounge whilst the kids are watching TV, yes you might be able to get 20 mins done, yes you might have to stop to get them a snack (very likely) but that's fine when you set realistic expectations and you carry on with it no matter what.

2 - It won't be perfect

I know the millennial in you will be screaming to get it looking as good as possible, making sure you are being as efficient as possible and making sure you get maximum results. But it's the holidays - it's not going to be perfect. Perfectionism we often this of as a positive trait, however when it stops us from doing anything which is "less than" perfect it drops into the negative side of things.

3 - Something is better than nothing.

15 mins here and there is 175% better than doing nothing. Some squats whilst you are brushing your teeth is better than nothing. Getting out for a walk at pace is better than nothing.

You don't have to let the whole 6 weeks go by and not exercise because you've got the kids.

Do it with them.

Get the whole family involved.

That's what I did at parkrun, we all went, I ran, Stef supported, Ruby was chief water bottle hander outer and Luca was the biggest waver.

Make it something.
